Woollam was engaged to transform the iconic Karl Langer Building at the former Sugar Research Institute (SRI) into a new catholic secondary school for the Mackay region. The refurbishment of included the extension and fit-out of 3 heritage listed buildings, a new sports precinct, a football field and parking areas.
Standing proudly on Nebo Road for almost 70 years, the Karl Langer Building represents a unique and defining part of Mackay’s history. During construction, the utmost care was taken to honour and conserve the original and heritage-listed fixtures. Many restored and repurposed original elements can be seen throughout the new school, perfecting the transition from old to new and paying tribute to the history of the Institute.
